Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer in-person appointments?

Currently, I am only offering distance counselling in the forms of Email, Instant Messaging, Phone, and Video services. If you prefer in-person, please reachout to me for possible future arrangements for meeting in London, Ontario.

In your credentials what does "Qualifying" mean?

As a College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) member, I am required to identify my credentials as "Qualifying" until I complete certain requirements such as a registration exam and a number of clinical supervision consultation hours. I am diligently working towards meeting all existing requirements, unfortunately due to COVID-19, avenues to meet these requirements have been postponed. If you'd like more information about my credentials or experience please reach out to me directly.

Do you take insurance?

Psychotherapy is not covered by Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). Extended Health and Medical Benefits may provide coverage, please speak to your benefit/insurance provider directly about coverage. Be sure to mention my credentials “Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)” to your benefit provider. Full payment will be required for your appointments. Invoices and receipts will be provided for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Keep your receipts as expenses may be claimed on your taxes!

I'm interested in text counselling but haven't done it before. Can I start with this and see how it goes?

Absolutely! I'm hopeful that you will enjoy your text counselling experience but I also understand that it's not for everyone. For some people they may know they prefer this type of communication while others may feel unfamiliar with how it would work. During our initial consultation I'll clearly explain how the text counselling you've chosen will work, potential benefits and risks, and even send you instructional handouts. At any time you feel the modality/service you picked isn't a good fit, let me know and we will find what works better.

What do we do if there is technological issues and we can't connect for our appointment?

Online counselling is great in that it's convenient and allows for you to express yourself in new ways yet there is also aspects of this modality that not even I have control over- such as power/ internet outages and technology issues. I combat this by taking as much technology anxiety away from you as possible and plan for unforeseen issues. This means we will create a back-up plan that utilizes separate technology/ equipment to ensure we can always connect!

What's the difference between Instant Messaging and Email Counselling?

Instant Message happens at the time of your appointment over live chat. Together we will message back-and-forth for the duration of our session. Compared to Email Counselling this gives more of a "felt presence" as we are continuously interacting. Email Counselling allows you to craft your 500 word response on your own time and at your convenience (within discussed response-time windows). There are no set appointment times so you can take time to think about what you want to share without having to do it all in one sitting. Email Counselling has the feel of journaling and shares the therapeutic benefits that come from writing out your thoughts. Both services allow you to re-read all previous message history!
